A Third World Country Always Looks At Things From A Sexual & Narrow Religious Point Of View. Unexposed Sick Bigots!
MUSLIM female athletes are allowed to cover up their modesty (aurat) while taking part in any sports tournament in the country, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek told the Dewan Negara sitting.
He said their choice of attire was not an issue, citing the success of Bahrain athlete Ruqaya Al Ghasara, who won a gold medal in the 200m sprint at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. He said the success of two national shooting athletes, Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi and Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim, in winning the gold medal in the 10m air rifle doubles event at the Commonwealth Games in India last year, proved that such clothing did not hamper their performances.
"The ministry and the National Sports Council (NSC) has no authority to determine the attires worn by the athletes. The attire is mostly determined by the world sports bodies or the athletes themselves.
He said this in response to Senator Mumtaz Md Nawi ,who asked whether the ministry had conducted a study on the revealing attire worn by female athletes.Replying to a question from Senator Datuk Mohd Najeeb Abdullah, he said the Badminton World Federation (BWF) had not made a decision to require all female players to wear short skirts, especially for the 2012 London Olympics.
