Penang State Government imposes Ban on Utusan Malaysia

Well Done DAP, but we need The PM To Suspend Or Ban Utusan Malaysia & issue them a final stern warning!

UTUSAN Malaysia has been banned from covering future Penang state assembly meetings for allegedly fabricating an article about Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's official residence last November.

The newspaper was also roundly condemned at the assembly meeting yesterday for its report on DAP allegedly conspiring with Christian groups to turn Malaysia into a Christian country. The two Umno representatives present during the debate were unable to defend the publication.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya (BN-Teluk Bahang) admitted that although Umno was the majority shareholder in the paper, it did not mean the party condoned whatever was printed in it.

Responding to attacks levelled at the paper, Dr Hilmi said he too did not believe the story after reading it but cautioned the house to not jump the gun and act against Utusan until the authorities had completed investigations into the matter. But Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen were relentless, blaming Utusan for the racial tension in the country and urged the government to take action against the newspaper.

Chow Kon Yeow (DAP-Padang Kota) accused the newspaper of using "religion for such hideous political plans".Earlier, Jagdeep Singh Deo (DAP-Datuk Keramat) said the house should consider meting out harsher punishment against Utusan, including imposing sentences like a jail term which is handed down against those who committed contempt of court."Utusan has not stopped spreading false news since Pakatan took over the state administration in 2008," he said, before turning his criticism against Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein for not doing anything to put a stop to the paper's style of reporting.

At one point, Speaker Datuk Abdul Halim Hussein told Jagdeep to retract his description of Hishammuddin as a minister who was unable to do his job.
