E'nuf Said! Vote Against UMNO In The Upcoming GE! Asalkan Bukan UMNO!

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — Political parties and non-governmental organisations have banded together to form an anti-Umno movement, saying that they will campaign nationwide to educate voters on the “evils of Umno.”

The movement, titled “Asalkan Bukan Umno/BN (Anything But Umno/BN)”, is made up of NGOs like Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM), Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia (SAMM), as well as political parties like PKR, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM).

PKR’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin (picture) told a packed news conference here that it was high time individuals as well as civil society groups put an end to Umno’s rule, claiming that the party constantly used “racial politics” to scare and oppress ordinary Malaysians.

“ABU will be launching a nationwide campaign to call on the people to gather their courage to voice out their disgust and repulsion towards the misappropriations and corruption being practised by Umno, and with that no longer hesitate in rejecting Umno/BN,” said the PKR leader popularly known as Chegubard.

He charged that Umno’s blatant “corruption” had resulted in Malaysians paying the price through an excessive rise in the price of everyday goods. Badrul said that simultaneous press conferences on the movement were held today in many other states including Penang and Terengganu.

MCLM president Haris Ibrahim, who was also present, said that he was barred from entering Sabah recently to set up the ABU movement there. “We were kicked out without any reason given,” said Haris.

“Musa Aman says Haris not allowed in Sabah because of security reasons? Does he look like a security threat?” Badrul asked. Badrul also announced that ABU would be organising a special forum on December 15 at the Markas Tarbiyyah PAS in Taman Melewar, Gombak.

He said a “big announcement” would be made then concerning plans to campaign towards an “Umno-less” Malaysia, but refused to divulge further details. When asked how long the movement will carry on for, Badrul replied: “Asalkan Umno masih ada (As long as Umno is still around).”
